Peace and Quiet

“Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.”  Max Ehrmann – Desiderata

Given that “peace” and “quiet” (as in “I need some peace and quiet!) have long been paired together in the lexicon, it seems odd how that reminder is needed — “remember what peace there may be in silence.” But it is, and both “peace” and “silence” ARE needed in a world (e.g. this one) where noise and turmoil abound.
